observational ASSESSMENT
ASSESSMENT AT WOODLAND
There are no assigned quizzes, tests, or homework at Woodland.
Students are assessed and evaluated based on on-going observation by the teachers. Teachers at Woodland take great care in observing each student at work and at play. This careful observation is ingrained in the Woodland philosophy.
Evaluation is carried out by comparing each student's accomplishments & struggles with her/his own previous development. Each trimester parents receive written narrative reports based on the teacher observations. In conjunction with the written narratives there are also parent-teacher conferences once per trimester.
Families can decide whether or not the student attends the conference with her/his parent(s). In addition, informal conversations at pickup and drop off as well as by phone are typical.
